When it comes to talking about the best guitarists this country has produced, one that is often overlooked is Mark Lizotte aka Diesel.
His inimitable slinky, soulful style and instantly recognisable tone (not to mention formidable songwriting chops) have been part of the Australian popular music landscape for more than three decades, f you can believe it.
Well, those three decades have not wearied the seasoned muso, with Diesel gearing up to release his 14th studio album, Sunset Suburbia later this month.
To celebrate, Diesel will be returning to his familial Newcastle haunt of Lizotte’s for two shows on Saturday 29 August.
As is par for the course whenever the Soul Revival hitmaker visits our neck of the woods, tickets to the 8.30pm show have all but sold out. BUT you also have the option to grab a Live N Streamin ticket for this one, meaning you can enjoy the already intimate performance from your even ore intimate lounge room.
If matinees are more your thing, Diesel is also putting on a lunchtime show on the same day and, while there are tickets left for this one (at the time of publishing), they are selling fast.
The soon-to-be-released album, marks the first full length of new material in nearly six years for Diesel, and the culmination of the Sunset Suburbia s project that also yielded two EPs (Sunset Suburbia Vol 1 and 2)
“Suburbia has always held a strange fascination for me,” he explained.
“It’s kind of a bittersweet thing but it’s the stuff of life and it has a way of making songs. More than other releases, I’ve gone wide with letting influences infiltrate.”
