Last weekend we asked you how you describe Newcastle to someone who’s never been here.

And wow, your responses were amazing. There’s a lot of love for this city out there, and why wouldn’t there be! Like many of you, we think Newcastle is the best city in Australia.

Check out some of the great, funny and heartwarming descriptions of Newcastle from our Facebook community below.

Clinton Baker: Best weather and beaches in the world, plus, world-class vineyards, great pubs, clubs, and fantastic food.

Darren Duff: You don’t, they have to see it for themselves as there’s no place like Newy !!

Dave Bennett: Shhhhhhhh it’s our secret

Emma Lee Hardwick: After spending time living in other countries and states I have come to appreciate Newcastle. We are a trial for so many thing because we are a major city without being a major city… I love we host the supercars now (my opinion) We are so central to everything. We have alot of dim areas but so does everywhere. Gotta love being less than 10mins from any beach

Gabrielle O’Boyle: A small town that got bigger but doesn’t know it yet! With better beaches than Sydney, an up and coming food scene, and the vineyards up the road.

Pieter Kleynjan: Gods country – Surf, wine, food and beer within a 20 minutes. Mix that with us friendly natives

Samantha Hobson: It is where the coast, meets the city and meets the country! There is a little bit of everything and something for everyone!

Mark Ross: A big country town!

Carmel Roberts: The perfect place to live. Theatre, sport, beaches, art, culture and everything else you could possibly need. Just don’t tell anyone, it is a perfect secret.

Scott McInnes: Home ! Now go back to yours #stayhome

Helen Hunstone: The best city in Australia. We have it all here..beaches that are world class, lakes that are spectacular, vineyards that are beautiful just to name a few and all within easy travelling distance. I couldn’t live anywhere else. xxxxxx

Kahn Whiteford: A place where in an hour’s drive you can be under a waterfall in the Watagan, at lake 4x bigger than Sydney Harbour. up to Port Stephens. then you have all our wonderful city beaches. above all that we have the world’s best ever wingers. stand on any corner in the city and one will come right up to you .
I love this city. born and raised in here. it’s the best.

Lindsay Mackay: It’s a Mini Melbourne and being Mini makes it all the trendier

Leigh Kafer: Great place.close to the beaches vineyards and also close to the country. Very easygoing people and a relaxed atmosphere. Great dining options.Love this CITY!!

Ray Austin: A suburb of Lake Macquarie 😉

Mitchell Murdoch: Breath taking beaches, Wonderful light rail system and it also happens to be the only city in Australia where you can legally marry your cousin.

Emily Mullen: A beautiful place to live and a wonderful place to visit <3 an amazing amount of creative talent with our beautiful Civic Theater and a dozen good theater companies, loads of wonderful places to visit, the cathedral, the wetlands Fort Scratchly, loads or great restaurants and so much more

Ian Dickson: Not as frantic as Sydney , more relaxed

Katrina Bracht: The place I lost my heart. Bought a house. Found the most real people I have ever met. And the place I miss every day

Dan Birrell: A great place with Some friendly people, great pubs, beaches, parks, restaurants….. but when you go to the top end it’s sooks that don’t like change or progress… V8’s are prime example (1 week for the town to make a lot of money, but they just see it as invasion of their rights)
