With toilet paper at a premium and people STILL flouting social distancing laws, we could do with some smartening up right about now.
Well, thankfully Newcastle-based indie rockers dave the band have come to the rescue with their new single Get Smart.
This perfect slice of power-pop could very well be in contention for the feelgood song, not only of the summer but the year, thanks to its earworm-worthy and fuzzed-out melody highlighted by a very Joey Santiago-esque (Pixies) solo from guitarist/frontman Noah Church.

The undeniably optimistic tune is backed up by an equally sunny clip that features the band – Church, bass player Max Tuckerman and drummer Gabriel Argiris – decked out in fetching pink nighties.
And in scenes that are sure to be welcome to any Novocastrian who has been couped up inside for the past week or so, the band gleefully rip through the whip-smart tune in the Hunter Street Mall and at Newcastle Beach.
The single is the second taste of the band’s anticipated debut album Slob Stories which was produced by lauded knob-twiddler Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Stooges).
The first single, Ultrahard dropped back in November last year and if this duo of tracks is anything to go by, Slob Stories could very well be the thing that makes this country sit up and take notice of dave the band.
The band has been busy laying a solid foundation with a string of quality EPs including the 2015 debut Sunny Days In Winter and 2018’s brilliant Never Yoch Alone.
