The countdown is on! Very soon the streets of Newcastle will come alive with the sights, sounds and smells of the Coates Hire Newcastle 500.

And if you want to know what’s on when you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got a stack of info you’ll want to know about before hitting the track.

Make sure you are Trackside at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 to see the Supercars Drivers Parade take place through the street circuit of Newcastle before the racing begins.

A Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18A Hornet from No. 75 Squadron entertains the crowd at the SKYCITY Triple Crown 2016 Supercars Championship in Darwin.


With high-tech, high-skill and high-speed as part of the Supercar driver program on the ground, see Air Force pilots take to the skies with these common passions for a thrilling display in the air.

A Royal Australian Air Force F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet based at RAAF Base Williamtown will perform an adrenaline pumping aerial display on both days over the weekend at around 4pm. The Hornet will reach speeds of more than 1000km/h and will track from the north over the Stockton Bridge and along the river with an aerial handling display centered over the Newcastle Harbour precinct and Nobby’s Beach.

Following the aerial display, the F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet will perform a low-level flypast over Pit Straight on Saturday and again on Sunday to mark the start of the main race.

The Hornet aircraft will run-in from the east and conduct a low-level pass over Pit Straight at an altitude around 60m and at speeds of 900km/hr before making its departure over the Newcastle Cathedral and King Edward Park on its return journey to RAAF Base Williamtown.

Supercars Autograph Session: Come along to the Supercars Autograph Session for the opportunity to meet some of your favourite Supercars drivers and grab an autograph. Free posters will be available for patrons at the designated autograph sessions. Times will be released closer to the event.

Dunlop Super2 Autograph Session: The drivers of the Dunlop Super2 Series will also be on hand to meet fans at the Coates Hire Newcastle 500. Head along to the designated autograph session and grab a signature from the future Supercars champions! Free posters will be available for patrons. Times will be released closer to the event.


Check out the new Supercars SuperKids Zone! Exciting for kids, relaxing for parents. The SuperKids Zone is a fully fenced and secure area designed exclusively for parents and little people to relax, play, and test their racing abilities.

Get active on the Inflatable Race Track, check your speed and reaction skills at the Fast Fan Challenge or test your tyre changing skills on one of our table top fun games.

It features a pseudo-sports bar, complete with 5 TV screens streaming the best sport from around the world and Australia, a dedicated kids’ area, fuseball, and even a phone recharge station.

Start your day with breakfast within the Supercars precinct and mingle with the drivers, whilst helping raise funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

This year’s event will be attended by the top 10 ranked drivers going into the Coates Hire Newcastle 500. This is a morning not to be missed – limited tickets are available.

Two park & ride facilities will operate to help you get to the circuit from Stockton and Broadmeadow. There are almost 900 spaces available at McDonald Jones (Hunter) Stadium and up to 2,000 at Stockton Wharf.


In addition to the regular timetable extra trains will run to help move crowds to and from Newcastle over the 3 days of the event, particularly in the early morning in time for race start and later in the evening to help fans get home.

Closest Station & Circuit Shuttles

The closest station to the Coates Hire Newcastle 500 track is Newcastle Interchange on the Central Coast & Newcastle and Hunter Lines.

From there, you can catch the light rail from the Newcastle Interchange to Queens Wharf stop (Market Street Lawn) which is a short walk to Gate 1 or Gate 2 track entrances on Wharf Rd and Hunter St respectively.


Fans can park at Stockton Wharf and catch the ferry across the Harbour to Queens Wharf, where Gate 1 access is a short walk away. Parking at Stockton is a gold coin donation – pay on the day.


Fans can park at McDonald Jones (Hunter) Stadium and catch a shuttle bus to get to the circuit. These shuttle buses will drop off and pick up from the interchange located on Honeysuckle Drive. From there, Gate 1 access is a 1.1km walk along the waterfront on Wharf Road.
