CoastXP and professional ocean photographers, Daily Salt have teamed up for to offer a unique photographic workshop opportunity. The ‘Sunrise Whale Photography Workshop’ collab is happening on the 30th of September and the 14th of October, and we’ve got all the details including info on how to book your spot.


With only 10 people on board per tour, this is a great chance to get one on one with professional ocean photographer and Newcastle local Scott Harrison. Scott is known for his wave and nature-based images. Scott’s lifestyle surrounds his love for the ocean, much of our happiness he believes comes directly from time spent in or near the ocean.

The Sunrise Whale Photography Workshop will cover all the basics you need to understand and progress with your DSLR Photography. We will cover all the elements of Aperture and Shutter speed so you can take control of photographing any subject, as well as the essential rules of photo composition that will transform your images from simple snapshots to become photographs that you will be proud to display.


This workshop is much more than a whale watching experience, although that’s included too. The workshop will take into account the key destination landmarks that make Newcastle such a unique destination. Humpback whales are among some of the most inquisitive of all marine mammals, many making long migrations along the east coast of Australia; in 2017 there were over 35,000 individuals which passed our coastline.

The Hunter Coast as a destination is renowned for its amazing coastline, beaches, cafes, and creative genius. Amateur and professional photographers alike, love photographing the spectacular coastline of Newcastle, local surfers as well as shipping movements.

DURATION: 2.5 hours

PRICE: $150 Per Person

NOTE: Passengers must bring their own camera equipment. This workshop will be most beneficial if you own a DSLR Camera. This workshop requires a minimum of 4 passengers to go ahead. Scott is able to assist you with your own camera equipment, including which equipment will be the best to bring on the day.
