Your guide to Christmas Under the Stars in Newcastle

Newcastle Permanent’s Christmas Under the Stars is one of the most loved Christmas traditions for local families.

The event will once again take over King Edward Park this December promising an evening of festive entertainment and Christmas joy that won’t cost you a thing.

There’ll be free popcorn to munch on during the movie and a stack of free activities to keep the kids entertained throughout the night.

Carols and cinema

During the event, you’ll have the chance to sing along to all your favourite carols with local bands and musicians providing the backing. And as the sun sets the big screen will light up for a special screening of the 2000’s live-action classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas – rated PG.

The big man

What’s a Christmas party without a visit from Santa? Keep an eye out for the jolly man in red who’ll be making a special appearance during the event.

Food trucks and festive treats

Your taste buds are invited to the party too. Food trucks will be serving up a delicious array of food and festive treats. Families are also welcome to bring their own picnics as long as they leave the glass at home.

Getting there

Worried about parking around the park? We’d recommend leaving the car at home because there’s a complimentary shuttle bus from Bar Beach and Bolton Street car parks which will be running to the park.

What you can bring

To guarantee your comfort throughout the event, it’s advised to bring a picnic rug, water, sun protection, insect repellent, and of course, a Santa hat! And while the whole thing will have plenty of party vibes, alcohol is not permitted.

Rain or Shine

The event is set to go ahead rain or shine, so keep an eye on the weather updates and cross your fingers for a starry night.
