Back in July singer-songwriter, Catherine Britt shared her batch of new songs, her seventh studio album, with the world. She’ll be in Newcastle with her band The Cold Cold Hearts for a show at Lizottes on Saturday 1st September. We caught up last week to talk shop.

The Cold Cold Hearts

The Cold Cold Hearts, made up of musos Michael Muchow & Andy Toombs, really takes Catherine’s songs to a place the Australian country artist has rarely gone before.

The addition of the band to really signals a new chapter for Catherine’s music.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and with the new songs I was writing it was a perfect fit” She tells us over the phone during our chat.

The new album

Catherine’s new album was recorded in her backyard in a studio her partner, James, built with his bare hands.

“It’s like the best studio apartment you’ve ever seen. My husband’s not a builder, but he pulled it all together and I love it” she exclaims.

Catherine also self-produced the album with engineer Jeff McCormack behind the desk.

“Having Jeff there allowed us to concentrate on the art and just do our thing” Catherine tells us.

“Jeff really focused on the sonic quality, which allowed us a lot of freedom as performers”.

The show at Lizotte’s

Catherine will bring The Cold Cold Hearts to Newcastle for a show at Lizottes on Saturday 1st September.

“I think people will love that the band they hear on the record will be the same band they’re seeing during the live shows,” Catherine says.

Tickets for the show are now on sale (click here for details), and you can check out Catherine’s website.
