She’s the up-and-coming Newcastle songwriter that has pricked up her fair share of. ears with the gorgeous singles Coastline, Drift and Fade Away.
And Bree Rusev is set to drop another single next week and, spoiler alert, it’s a pearler!
The track Goodbye like the preceding singles is a lilting acoustic folk number fleshed out with sparse percussion and strings, and some lush-sounding fingerpicked guitar that floats perfectly underneath Bree’s delicate vocal.
Produced by Garrett Kato the track is the perfect showcase for Bree’s transportive, beyond-her-years songwriting and talent for wringing the rawest of emotion out of just a few lyric lines.
Lyrically, Goodbye centres around themes of simplistic love, longing, and separation. Written during isolation, Goodbye is intuitive, authentic, and impactful, offering a swelling warmthand hopefulness, preaching the beauty of the past and an optimistic future.
“I write music as an outlet to process my thoughts and emotions, Goodbye was written to give people something positive and uplifting in an otherwise difficult time.”
As a testament to the fact that Bree is on the right track with her brand of Australian indie-folk, her Gareth Hudson-produced single Drift has been named a semi-finalist in the international Unsigned Only songwriting competition.
And with her previous three singles all getting spins on Triple J and clocking up an impressive 30,000-plus Spotify streams collectively, it appears that the future is bright for Bree Rusev.
Goodbye will be available to stream and download on Friday 13 August. In the meantime, head here to keep up-to-date on all Bree Rusev happenings and here to check out her cracking tunes.
