After turning their attention to the likes of Tom Petty and Creedence Clearwater Revival, Oz rock icons The Choirboys will be giving The Boss a run for his money.
That’s right, the Run To Paradise hitmakers have announced that Bruce Springsteen will be the subject of their latest 6 Pack tribute EP and they will be heading our way in the new year to give us a taste.
Frontman Mark Gable and the boys will be playing the Cambridge on Friday 29 May 2020, running through an all-killer-no-filler set of Choirboys classics as well as six of the best from the Boss.
“It’s all about emotion, man,” Mark said.
“It wasn’t till I saw Bruce on TV for the first time, performing a live version of Rosalita that my brain snapped,” he added “This is it, man! Bruce wasn’t just good, he was pure inspiration, and still is today!”
The decision to pay tribute to Springsteen was an easy one as the Boss’ rough and ready working-class sensibility dove-tails perfectly with the Choirboys underdog, pub rock sound.
The Choirboys were most recently in our neck of the woods, playing at Shoal Bay Country Club back in June, where they gave punters a slice of their Creedence Clearwater Revival six-pack.
Speaking to Newcastle Live at the time, Mark was quick to wax lyrical about his find memories of Newcastle nightlife.
“There used to be a place called the Castle Tavern – now that’s the first time I ever saw Richard Wilkins in a band,” he said.
“Now he didn’t call himself Richard Wilkins – it was Richard Wild and Reckless. he was terrible. Good looking but terrible. He’d get up and go ‘I’m Wild and they’re Reckless’. I keep reminding him about that, too.”
