It’s been almost 40 years since Live Aid captured the world’s attention and to celebrate the anniversary the man behind the concert, Bob Geldof is coming to Newcastle.
An Evening with Bob Geldof: Songs and Stories from an Extraordinary Life will hit the Civic Theatre in March 2025 which is also the 50th anniversary of the formation of Geldof’s iconic band Boomtown Rats.
The show will see Bob play acoustic versions of some of his most loved songs and share compelling anecdotes and insights into both his evolution and from behind the curtain of the music industry. And there are heaps of stories to tell.
Rising from a rough start in South Dublin, Geldofโs journey began with diverse, often gritty jobs that helped forge his determined character. From labouring in slaughterhouses and digging roads to mining in the Arctic, his early years were shaped by resilience and a thirst for purpose.
As the frontman of The Boomtown Rats Geldof evolved into a powerful voice for humanitarian causes, founding Band Aid, a charity whose Do They Know Itโs Christmas? became a global anthem for change.
Geldofโs activism did not end there. He became a global humanitarian force, putting on groundbreaking events that raised millions for famine relief and highlighted global poverty. His influence extended as an advisor to world leaders, including Prime Ministers, Presidents, and even the Pope, always pushing for social change and policy reforms. Recognised for his contributions, Geldof was knighted, nominated for a Nobel Prize, and awarded numerous other honours. His life has been marked by intense dedication to creativity, humanitarianism, and political reform, and he continues to inspire as he remains a prominent figure in global activism and media.
You can spend An Evening with Bob Geldof at Newcastle Civic Theatre on Sunday, 16 March 2025. Tickets go on sale from 1pm on Thursday 7th November 2024. For more information visit tegdainty.com.
