BITTER & TWISTED: Home Brew Masterclass, Tap Takeover & Beer & Food Matching Lunch!

An exclusive insight into the amber ales and food matching featured at the Bitter & Twisted Beer Festival this year

There’s something quite unique about standing in the sun drinking a beer inside the same maximum security gaol that hardened criminals like Arthur ‘Neddy’ Smith and Ivan Milat did time.

In this post, we’ll take a look at what this year’s Home Brew Masterclass, Tap Takeover and the Beer & Food Matching Lunch have in store for those lucky enough to have a ticket.

BITTER & TWISTED TAP TAKEOVER

The 2018 Bitter & Twisted Tap Takeover is happening in B Wing of Maitland Gaol. This year Vale Brewing & Fox Hat Brewing Co. will be holding up the B Wing bar.

Vale Beer Company, founded as The McLaren Vale Beer Company in 2008 are well known for their brewing small runs of The Original Vale Ale. They’ve since expanded their core range to include the Lager, IPA and Amber and whilst getting creative with short batches of EXPs and Limited Editions along the way.

Fox Hat Brewing Co. has unleashed some big flavours and is taking no prisoners. The brews are full of passion and life with bold flavours that push the boundaries. Drink up!

BITTER & TWISTED BEER & FOOD MATCHING LUNCH

Sprout Catering is back for two amazing Beer and Food Matching lunches.

Saturday is your chance to get your laughing gear around a four-course menu with Sunday playing host to a three-course lunch both prepared by husband and wife team Tom and Jacqueline Brow

BITTER & TWISTED HOME BREW MASTERCLASS

This year’s Bitter & Twisted Home Brew Masterclass will be facilitated by the local homebrew club, Hunter United Brewers (HUB).

Check what’s happening each day below.

Saturday: You Be The Judge sessions which will allow a selection of the crowd to have the opportunity to choose their favourite beer from five brewed by HUB members including Hibiscus Session Mead (Daniel Ivey), American IPA (Andrew Rostas), Smoked Porter (Tasman Willis), German Pilsner (Matt Murphy) and Dry Stout (Brendan O’Sullivan).

Sunday: Showcase of emerging styles with three sessions commencing at 11.00am, 12.30pm and 2.00pm. The sessions will feature Brut IPA, Gose and New England IPA.

BITTER & TWISTED MEET THE BREWER

Meet the Brewer sessions will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday at Bitter & Twisted. The sessions are conducted by the brewers themselves and provide attendees the opportunity to hear how a selection of beers are brewed and to participate in tastings. Brewers featured in the 2018 Meet the Brewer schedule include Sydney Brewery, Akasha Brewing Company, Hope Brewery, Six String Brewing Company, Dusty Miner Craft Brewery, Hunter Beer Co, Murrays Brewery and Yeastie Boys.
