Billy Elliot The Musical will hit the stage at the Civic Theatre Newcastle for a strictly limited season in October 2023.
Since its premiere back in 2005, the musical, featuring songs by Elton John, has become one of the most popular productions in the world.
Seen by almost 12 million people the musical, based on a film of the same name, captures a classic coming-of-age story – A motherless boy who starts taking ballet lessons which inspires his community and changes his life forever.
Producers of the recent smash hit season of Jersey Boys, The Very Popular Theatre Company, said they expect Billy to attract thousands of theatre lovers to the city.
“This year, we broke box office records by selling more than 11,000 tickets to Jersey Boys – making it the most tickets ever sold to an event at the Civic Theatre,” Producer Daniel Stoddart said.
“We expect Billy to, likewise, attract thousands of people into the city.
“This is a significant boost for local tourism and shines a spotlight on our city as a major centre for world-class musical theatre and entertainment.”
Auditions will be held in February next year for Australian performers to join the cast.
