Are you one of those Novocastrians who complains that there’s nothing to do in this fair city?
Well, you couldn’t be more wrong, especially this weekend with the city truly ‘pushing the boat out’ with a massive weekend of huge events to sink your teeth into.
The fun kicks off with a bang on Friday with the iconic Newcastle Regional Show (March 6,7,8) which offers more family fun than you can poke a stick at from cuddling baby animals to monster trucks, fireworks, robotics and of course rides and show bags.
Even better, the Show runs for the whole weekend so there’s no excuse to miss out on everything this event ha to offer!
Sport fans are also well taken care of with the Matildas Australian football team vying for a ticket to Tokyo when they take on Vietnam at McDonald Jones on Friday night in the first of two Olympic qualifying matches.
Merewether Beach will also be a hive of activity as the legendary Surfest (6,7,8 March) celebrates its 35th year on Newcastle’s sporting calendar.
The event is the largest surfing festival in the southern hemisphere with over 850 national and international male and female competitors taking to our local waves.
Eager epicureans can head to the Barrelled Food Wine and Beer Festival on both Saturday and Sunday and while away a few hours sipping fine wine, sharing craft beer and devouring delish dishes, served up by some of our region’s leading producers.
If that wasn’t enough, the ‘yoof’ will also have the chance to let off some steam at The Drop Festival (7 March) which, this year, will feature the likes of The Presets, Boy and Bear, Ball Park Music and Allday keeping the weekend vibes at fever pitch at Empire Park!
Oh and there’s literally a cornucopia of gigs, markets, and events to sink your teeth into as well so head here to check out what’s on offer and get out and get amongst it!
