Set in Italy (adding to the rumours that Shakespeare was, in fact, Italian), a live performance of Othello is one of those “must experience before you die” experiences. The award winning and world renowned Belle Shakespeare will bring their production of the passionate tragedy to Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on September 8 & 9. So if you’ve never seen it, here’s your excuse to fix that!

Shakespeare clearly understood a thing or two about jealousy, and it’s really brought to the audience in this production, directed by Artistic Director Peter Evans. Starring Ray Chong Nee as Othello (Bell Shakespeare’s The Dream and MTC’s I Call My Brothers) and Yalin Ozucelik (Bell Shakespeare’s Henry IV and STC’s Cyrano de Bergerac) as Iago, this is truly one of Shakespeare’s most captivating and devastating pairings.
