Chookas Entertainment brings the heat with Be More Chill

Local theatre company, Chookas Entertainment will bring the sci-fi musical Be More Chill to the Civic Theatre Playhouse in May.

The musical follows the story of a teenager called Jeremy Heere, and what happens when he puts his faith in a supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most.

“Since announcing the return of the Newcastle Season of Be More Chill The Musical, we’ve been overwhelmed with positive responses and audiences eager to see this production
dusted off and brought back to the stage post COVID,” producer Jody Miller said.

“This show has brought so many audience members joy and we can’t wait to see what our phenomenal team do with a show that they can rehearse in person!”

Leading the creative team behind the staging of the music is director Riley McLean (Heathers The Musical, Take me To Neverland) and Zippie Tiffenright (Heathers The Musical) supported by the talented Bree Young (Frozen Jnr, Back To The ’80s) in the role of Musical Director.

Choreography is by Olivia Leathley (Pippin, Addams Family) bringing fresh energy to this iconic musical. Accomplished Lighting and Sound Designer Jacob Harwood (Chicago, Oliver!, Shrek, Young Frankenstein) and the team at JHProductions will take on all tech elements for the Newcastle season.

Be More Chill will hit the stage at the Civic Theatre Playhouse on 8 May for an 11-show season until 18 May. For more information and tickets visit civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
