PERFORMANCE

If you want to enter the exciting world of music making and performance, this is the study area for you. Learn some amazing techniques from our teachers who are performance specialists, and apply those skills at our very own fortnightly Music event on campus. You will be testing your performance skills at our gig: Live @the Lunchbox. Here you have the opportunity to perform, try out new material, work with other students and build your fan base right on campus.

In 2017, we are also creating a talent pool to use for special performances at internal and external gigs and local events.

If you want to further develop your music-making and performance techniques, the following pathway is available: Certificate 4 Music Industry (Performance)

This area of study is ALSO delivered at Ourimbah campus on the Central Coast

SOUND PRODUCTION

If you’re looking at entering the challenging world of sound production, this is the study area for you. Gain an introduction to studio recording in our world-class studios and be trained in Pro Tools, the industry standard in digital recording software. These skills and opportunities are a great foundation for your engineering career. Also, you get your own fortnightly Music event where you can practice setting up PAs, mixing sound and running a gig.

This is a great way to learn: take skills learnt in class straight into a unique and real music experience.

This area of study is ALSO delivered at Ourimbah campus on the Central Coast

MUSIC BUSINESS

If you’re interested in the exciting world of music business where you’d be managing and promoting artists and their music and services, this is the study area for you.

Learn creative and business skills from our industry specialists (agents and event manager) and apply these skills to your own fortnightly Music event. In your class, you will select talent, write bios and worksheets, liaise with production crew and network with students on campus.

If you want to further develop your music business skills, the following is available:

Certificate 4 Music Industry (Music Business)

You’ll be skilled in audio, lighting, staging and vision set-ups – really good skills if you want to start getting work as crew as local events, such as ‘Day on the Green’ and venues, such as the Civic Theatre.

Because it’s important to know how the other half works, you’ll get an introduction to ushering, crowd control and customer service.

This course is an entry-level requirement for backstage work. The chance of employment is greater if you have completed this training.

If you want to develop your backstage skills into more specialised stage management and production management areas, the following is available:

Diploma Live Production and Technical Services

Because it’s important to understand all aspects of audio, you’ll get an introduction to microphones, audio set-ups, recording and editing

This course is an important requirement for working in radio.

If you want to develop your technical skills in specialised sound production areas the following pathways are available: Certificate 4 Music Industry and Certificate 4 Screen and Media.

This training gives you the skills to understand both the business and artistic sides of creative arts management for both visual arts and performing artists.

This is a rich and rewarding area of employment. You will skilled in a number of fascinating areas: how to work with artists, how to deal with venue operators, how to assist in the writing of grants, how to preparing for and present exhibitions, product launches and public productions.

Because it’s important to know how it all works, you’ll get an introduction to issues around diversity, customer service and business matters.

This course is an entry-level requirement for administrative work in the arts.

Our Diploma students attend 3 days per week for 6 months – so you still have time to work part time in the music industry, check out some local gigs or work on your own music.

PERFORMANCE

If you’ve already completed Certificate 3 or 4 Music Industry in Performance, you are welcome to join this exciting level of study. At the Diploma level, you will develop your songwriting and take your songs into our world-class studio. You will get the chance to work in the studio learning how to record, mix and edit your own songs or, you can choose to collaborate with our Diploma Sound Production students.

This course takes you a step closer to becoming a songwriter with the skills to manage the recording and distribution of your material. With these skills you can increase your potential to forge a career as a performing artist.

Most students want to continue developing their skills in composition and producing. If this is you, we offer these pathways to further your creative career:

Advanced Diploma Music Industry (Performance)

SPECIAL PROGRAM
Also on offer in 2017 is thePERFORMANCE / MUSIC THEATRE PROGRAM

(Performing Arts)

The study will focus on developing skills to work in the Music Theatre Industry.

Students attend 2 days per week for 27 weeks. The focus is on developing vocal and performance techniques, working on preparing audition material, creating own cabaret products for Music Theatre Festivals and performing as part of an ensemble in a major production.

SOUND PRODUCTION

If you’ve already completed Certificate 3 or 4 Music Industry (Sound Production), you are welcome to join this challenging level of study. At the Diploma level, you will have lots of opportunities to record in a world-class studio.

In addition, our leading Pro Tools instructors will step your knowledge of Pro Tools and can provide you with your first Pro Tools accreditation, once you successfully complete the online exam.

At the Diploma level, you will continue to undertake live audio training, in particular the mixing live shows, with a range of equipment from small vocal PAs to large event rigs.

If you want to continue your studies and consolidate your sound engineering skills to incorporate techniques for sound effects, soundtracks and dialogue work, the following pathway is available: Advanced Diploma Music Industry (Sound Production)

This area of study is ALSO delivered at The Grove Studios, Somersby (Central Coast)

MUSIC BUSINESS

If you’ve already completed Certificate 3 or 4 Music Industry (Music Business), you are welcome to join this exciting level of study. At the Diploma level, you look at management and marketing seriously. Your knowledge and skills in navigating the world of online profiling (using YouTube, various social media platforms), promotional campaigning and music distribution will be developed.

You will be given opportunities to work with music makers, such as musicians, songwriters, engineers and producers and assist them in starting out in the business.

There is a growing need for skilled music managers who can support the business affairs of those who create the music. This course will give you those skills

If you want to further develop skills in communication and marketing and become a professional music business manager, marketer or event manager, the following pathway is available:

Advanced Diploma Music Industry (Music Business)

This area of study is NOT delivered on the Central Coast

DIPLOMA LIVE PRODUCTION AND TECHNICAL SERVICES (Performing Arts)

If you’ve already completed Certificate 3 Live Production and Services (or, the BOS Entertainment course), you are welcome to join this level of study. The focus is on developing skilled stage managers and production managers for the entertainment industry. The course starts with a refresher in audio, lighting and staging skills and moves on to more specialised training in managing projects, working with technicians, managing events, running venues, overseeing touring projects.

You will be expected to work on various projects independently of the course. This is a great way to improve skills, network in the industry and secure employment after training.

If you want to further develop skills in management, to incorporate venue /theatre/company management, the following pathway is available:

Advanced Diploma Live Production and Technical Management

This course is NOT delivered on the Central Coast

The Diploma and Advanced Diploma students in the following NEW courses attend 2 days per week for 27 weeks.

DIPLOMA SCREEN AND MEDIA: THE ACTOR’S PROGRAM (NEW FOR 2017) (Performing Arts)

This is an exciting new program for 2017.

If you are interested in working as an actor, writer or director in screen and live performance, this is the study area for you.

The focus is on developing performance skills for screen. This course will challenge your performance skills and provide you with a strong grounding in the foundation elements of acting for screen and live theatre production. You will be given opportunities to create performances and benefit from the strong commitment to actor training.

The course also provides fundamental introduction to writing for performance, as well as an introduction to directing. This course is a great foundation for those wishing to commence a career in the creative industries within the areas of acting and writing.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA SCREEN AND MEDIA: THE ACTOR/WRITER/DIRECTOR PROGRAM (NEW FOR 2017)

(Performing Arts)

This is another exciting new program for 2017.

This course has a strong focus on developing and extending acting ability and range and is designed for students who have some experience in acting and wish to develop their talent and skills.

You will be challenged through live production work and content creation in a range of areas outside the normal scope of ‘theatre’ presentations.

Screen acting techniques are incorporated into productions and students will be engaged in film and screen opportunities with the film and animation students training at Hunter Street campus.

In the Advanced Diploma, there is a strong emphasis on writing and developing skills as a ‘content creator’. You will be given opportunities to showcase your developing skills in writing for performance and screen with outcomes that provide showcase opportunities (short film, live performance or Youtube).

This course aims to provide you with the skills required to be an independent creative who has the industry-based skills, talent and determination to succeed.
