BARRELLED: Your guide to Newcastle’s ultimate Wine, Beer and Food Festival

16 & 17 March, Jefferson Park Merewether

A wave of flavour awaits you at Barrelled, Newcastle’s newest Wine, Beer & Food festival. The event, happening on the 16th & 17th of March is part of the 2019 Surfest calendar, and we’ve got all the info you need to make the most of it.


Organisers of Barrelled have put together a lineup of wineries even the biggest wine boffin would be impressed with.

During the Festival you’ll have the chance to sample and rub shoulders with Allandale Winery, Briar Ridge Vineyard, Boydell’s, De Iuliis Wines, Elbourne Wines, First Creek Wines, Leogate Estate Wines, Margan Wines, Mount Pleasant, Peter Drayton Wines, Peterson House, Saddler’s Creek Wines, Tamburlaine Organic Wines, Tulloch Wines and local company, Wine Selectors.


We love us some craft beer here at Newcastle Live, so we’re stoked to hear that Barrelled have local’s Murrays Craft Brewing Co, Dusty Miner Craft Brewery and Ironbark Hill on board for the event.


You’ll be well taken care of by Restaurant Mason, Bao Brothers Eatery, Urban Mess and Crafty Street Eats who will be serving up lashings of fine food during the two-day festival. Hunter Valley Cheese Factory will be providing you with the perfect accompaniment to your newly found favourite beverage and you’ll be able to stock up on great local produce offerings from Goose on the Loose and Love Shak.


If there’s one thing you need after a good nosh it’s some Live music to cut a few shapes on the dance floor to. Barrelled have you sorted with festival acts all day long. Check out the line-up below.

Barrelled Workshops

Every get your semillons mixed up with your sauvignon blancs? Us too.

Well, the good people at Barrelled are here to help. Each workshop costs $25, plus your Festival Tumbler which is $10 and run for about 25-30 minutes. Check out the lineup of workshops below and hit the Barrelled website to book your spot.

Queen Brie | 11.30am Sat & Sun
Learn how to put the ultimate cheese platter together. Includes tasting of 5 cheeses and tasting of 1 wine.

Aging without Wrinkles | 12.15pm Sat & Sun
Learn how to cellar that special bottle of Hunter Valley wine you have (or want to have!) at home. Includes tasting of 4 aged wines.

Vino Virgins | 1.00pm Sat & Sun
Learn about a couple of popular wine varieties, and the difference between a semillon and chardonnay, and a shiraz and a pinot. Impress your friends and make your choice a little easier when you head to the cellar door. Includes tasting of 6 wines.

Rose` Crush | 1.45pm Sat & Sun
Taste six different Rose`s, made from different grape varieties and/or different winemaking methods!

Good Spirits | 2.30pm Sat & Sun
Of course there is a place for vermouth cocktails in the world of wine! This session includes a series of vermouth tastings.

Crafty Corner | 3.15pm Sat & Sun 
An interactive session with Murrays Head Brewer giving an overview of the craft brewing process including tastings of 4 Beers.


Festival Starter Pack

$26 including Festival Tumbler & 5 Vouchers. This is a discounted online price, guaranteed entry (due to capacity limits) and entry into the “Festive Flavours” prize draw.

Barrelled Business Class Bar

At a hosted 2 hour session, inside a private seated area you’ll taste up to 16 premium wines from Barrelled Wine producers, mostly not available at their Barrelled stalls. The highly experienced Barrelled Business Class wine aficionado will serve your wines and provide any background knowledge on each of the wines. The bar experience is unstructured, you taste what wines you want from the bar menu, when you want, during the 2 hour experience, with the assistance of our wine expert. A cheese plate is included to enjoy during your tastings. And, if you want to purchase any of these wines, producers have provided some exclusive Barrelled deals including delivery.

Business Class Cost: $60 + Festival Tumbler ($10) Includes: Two hour hosted tasting session of up to 16 wines (30ml tastings) and cheese plate. Please bring along your festival tumbler.
