ARTS IN THE YARD: Free creative workshops for kids at The Lock-Up

Kicking off this Saturday at The Lock-Up in Newcastle, Arts In The Yard aims to introduce contemporary art practice to kids in an open and accessible way

Supported by the Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund, the free art workshop will run every Saturday from 11:00 am.

Each session will begin with a mini tour of The Lock-Up’s historical spaces and a look at the galley’s current exhibition.

The workshop, developed and delivered by Arts Tutor Sia Cox, will take place in the historical men’s exercise yard at The Lock-Up and ensure children with a disability have equal access to participate.

Until 1982 the building was home to the Newcastle Police Station. Today it stands as a purpose-built gallery space alongside rare heritage-listed cells, an event and an installation space.

The free kids’ workshops at The Lock-Up will run every Saturday from 11:00 am from 18 February 2023. Visit thelockup.org.au to find out more.
