From a chance meeting of two old high school friends, Simon McNamara & Matt Conaghan, local band Capeside was born. With their new single just release we thought it was time to shine our artist spotlight on them.
Creating music with a everlasting substance is no easy feat, but that’s the mission for Newcastle band Capeside. Having cut their teeth as an acoustic duo, Capeside developed a strong following along the east coast of Australia due to their captivating live shows and signature sound.
In 2013 the duo took the plunge and added Rhys Zacher on drums to form the band we see in front of us today. Simon & Matt say that Rhys brought a special dynamic and a richer sound while still keeping the purity and uniqueness of the music.
On the back of their debut release, Phoenix, in 2013, Capeside received national and international recognition in Blunt magazine, their songs received some radio airplay in Australia and overseas.
The boys have also had some massive supports under their belts opening for acts like D At Sea, Jebediah, Red Beard & Joey Cape (Lagwagon) and Closure In Moscow.
The band’s first single off the album Atlantis dropped in late September and features some great footage of Newcastle’s headland. You can check it out here.
