After mesmerising Newcastle with a bravura performance of the Beatles’ iconic Abbey Road back in 2019, supergroup ARC is coming back and this time around they’ve got another classic album in. their sights.

This time around, the formidable talents of Kram (Spiderbait), Darren Middleton (Powderfinger), Mark Wilson (Jet) and Davey Lane (You Am I) will be applied to the landmark 1972 Neil Young album Harvest.

The 50th-anniversary celebration will hit the Civic Theatre on Tuesday 15 February and will see ARC play the classic album in its entirety before returning to the stage for a set chock full of classics from Neil Young’s extensive catalogue.

In February 1972, Neil Young released what would become his most successful record. Harvest was Neil’s fourth studio album and followed on from the brilliant After the Gold Rush, becoming the biggest selling album of 1972.

And with such Youn g standards as The Needle and the Damage Done, Heart of Gold and Old Man contained within, it’s not hard to see why.

However, in a case of ‘geez, that didn’t age well,’ critical reception for Harvest was mixed upon its release with the likes of culture bible Rolling Stone deriding the album’ as a mere retread of After The Gold Rush and the Montreal Gazette dubbing the album ’embarrassing.’

The benefit of hindsight and good sense saw Rolling Stone dub Harvest the 78th greatest album of all time while author Bob Merserau gave Harvest the best Canadian ALbum of All Time gong in his Top 100 Canadian Albums tome.

Catch ARC when they perform Neil Young’s Harvest at The Civic Theatre on Tuesday 15 February. Get your tickets here.
