Amy Vee to blitz the ballroom

Acclaimed Newcastle indie songstress Amy Vee will hit the stage on Sunday 10 May at The Small Ballroom in Islington for the first full band show in over a year.

Acclaimed Newcastle indie songstress Amy Vee will hit the stage on Sunday 10 May at The Small Ballroom in Islington for the first full band show in over a year.

It’s been a while between band shows for the award-winning songbird, and for good reason. Among touring the country as a multi-instrumentalist with Aussie music legend Jon English, performing solo openers for the likes of Toni Childs, Abby Dobson and The Audreys, the singer has also become a mother for the first time. Two of her band members also became first-time parents in the last year.

“It seems fitting to do a show with the band on Mothers’ Day, given this is the first time all of our babies will be celebrating the day,” said Vee.

“This is also the first time we have played The Small Ballroom. It’s a great venue and I’m excited to be bringing our show there,” she added.

The band features a full line-up including Ben Webb on guitars and melodica, Matt Spier on drums, Klaye Sanders on bass, Natasha Rusterholz-Schaad on keys and Rachel Pogson on cello.

“The band shows are so special. It’s such a perfect blend of musicians and what they bring to my songs is beyond anything I could dream up,” said Vee.

The band’s set will include a selection of songs from her crowd-funded album “Fits and Starts” as well as other well-travelled favourites.

The night will also be the final live show for fellow Newcastle band Ben and the Sea, who will be farewelling their songwriter and frontman before his indefinite move to the USA, and Sydney-based singer-songwriter Emma Beau, fresh off her tour with Kasey Chambers.

“Emma is one of my dear friends and such a great up-and-coming singer-songwriter making big waves. People who come early in the night might even catch me onstage with her, “hinted Vee.

The over 18s show will be at The Small Ballroom, Maitland Road, Islington on Sunday 10 May. Doors at 6:30pm. Entry is $15.
