When it comes to influential singer songwriters of the 20th century, there are few that come with as much gravitas as Johnny Cash.
Regarded as one of the best selling artists in the history of popular music, Johnny Cash’s career spanned an incredible 50 years and spawned such timeless classics as Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring Of Fire and A Boy Named Sue.
Johnny’s on and off stage partnership with wife June Carter Cash also enthralled audiences around the world with their songs of life, love and heartache – think the likes of It Ain’t Me Babe, and Jackson.
Theirs was a love story played out through some of the greatest songs ever written, a partnership so strong that the Grammy Award winner himself passed away mere months after losing the love of his life.
Now that musical partnership will be celebrated in a show, heading to the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre next month – Leaving Jackson: The Johnny Cash and June Carter Show – staring Jeff Carter and Brooke McMullen.
Both experienced entertainers in their own right, Jeff and Brooke will offer up a two hour show that celebrates Johnny and June’s undeniable musical chemistry as well as a smattering of songs Johnny has covered and artists that he has performed with such as The Highwaymen and Dolly Parton.
Leaving Jackson: The Johnny Cash and June Carter Show is on at the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on Friday 24 May.
