Despite the current pandemic forcing eateries to either close or fundamentally change the way they do business, a new eatery has popped up in Hamilton.
Yep, that’s right, anyone who is missing the gorgeous flavours of Lebanese cuisine can now have their hankerings satiated at Downtown Beirut.
Setting up shop in Beaumont Street, in the former Hamo’s site, Downtown Beirut promises to “celebrate life and family through the rich and exquisite flavours of the Middle East,” while using only the freshest ingredients.
While we’ve yet to sample the delights contained within (we’re actually planning some takeaway for dinner tonight), a quick perusal of the menu had us salivating in anticipation.
From an array of tempting Lebanese Wraps – Feisty Felafel, Chicken Shawarma, Crazy Kafta and Crispy Chicken – to a stacked cold Mezza plate with hummus, grape leaves, Mouttabel (roasted eggplant dip), Baba Ghanouj, and garlic, this menu almost demands repeat visits.
One item this writer is particularly keen to sample is the Mansaf – a traditional Arab dish of lamb cooked in a sauce of fermented dried yoghurt and served here with a smoked chicken rice with salsa and garnished with almonds and pine nuts.
Vegos and vegans are well taken care of with the Lonely Vegan plate – hummus, tabouli, kibbi, spinach pockets and smoked rice while the carnivore version, the Lonely Arab comes complete with the addition of chicken on smoked rice.
Also, with prices ranging from $8 to $20, this is one dining experience that isn’t going to break the bank.
Downtown Beirut is located at 25 Beaumont Street, Hamilton and is open for takeaway. Head here for more info or phone 4031 4731 to order.
