Meet the new owners of 48 Watt Street

A dynamic group of local entrepreneurs has taken the reins of the iconic 48 Watt Street venue, promising to breathe new life into its historic walls.

With a rich blend of expertise in hospitality, events, entertainment, and weddings, the new ownership team, comprising Newcastle locals Sam Hearn, Bonnie Marshall, Jerome O’Connor, Angus Harper, Jess Farchione, Anthony Ford, and Evan Renfrew, envisions transforming the space into a premier location for weddings and events while preserving the venue’s unique charm and historical significance.

Sam Hearn will bring a wealth of experience to the team as the owner of The Wedding Social Co, Silent Shout Entertainment, and Made on Sunday events.

With a decade in the wedding industry as one of Newcastle’s most popular wedding DJs, Hearn’s expertise adds a distinctive touch to the team.

“Our vision is to provide couples an inner-city option for their wedding, one that is exciting, modern, and fresh,” Sam said.

“We’re flipping the perception of a destination wedding venue on its head and providing an alternative right here in the beautiful city of Newcastle, set to attract locals as well as those who might not initially think to get married in Newcastle.”\

Situated on one of Newcastle’s oldest streets, between Newcastle Beach and the city’s finest dining and accommodation options, 48 Watt Street holds a unique position, and the new owners are determined to make it a sought-after destination for weddings and events in the heart of the city.

“We are proud Newcastle people,” co-owner Angus Harper, whose childhood family home is only 500 metres from the venue, said.

“We’re excited for the catering offering which we’ll announce in due time, and will offer a variety of local beers, wines and spirits.

“You can expect an aspirational venue, with quality execution, premium service, and a few surprises.”

The new owners are accepting bookings now for December onwards. Visit 48watt.com.au to find out more.
