DIG IT: Gardening guru Costa Georgiadis is back for Lake Mac Living Smart fest

Everyone’s favourite garden guru Costa Georgiadis will make a welcome return to Lake Macquarie this September for what promises to be a huge Living Smart Festival.

The Logie-winning host of Gardening Australia will be lending his expert eye to the School Garden Bed Competition that will see junior green thumbs from across Lake Macquarie display imaginative and innovative miniature gardens full of fresh produce and flowers.

Running over three days from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 September, this year’s festival will be fecund with events and activities centered around creating a more sustainable world for future generations.

One of Australia’s largest sustainability festivals will kick off its 2021 iteration on Friday 17 September with Feast for The Senses – a gourmet dinner under the stars featuring seasonal and sustainably sourced ingredients, as well as some sweet tunes.

Saturday 18 September‘s free event will see the return of Living Smart faves including a native plant giveaway, market stalls, children’s entertainment, workshops, a bike valet, the school garden bed competition, and more.

Then on Sunday 19 September, a raft of local musical talent will take to multiple stages for the ticketed Live at the Point show.

“We’re in the process of booking a line-up of musicians who share Living Smart Festival’s sustainability goals and messages,”

“It’s going to be a wonderful live event in the spring sunshine on the shore of Lake Macquarie and using the new MAP [Multi Arts Pavillion] stage.” Lake Macquarie City Council’s Arts, Culture, and Tourism Manager Jacqui Hemsley said.

KEEN FOR GREEN: “Past years of Living Smart Festival have shown how passionate our community is about living sustainably and thinking about how we can help make a difference,” Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said.

Mayor Kay Fraser said the festival had become one of the cornerstones of the Lake Mac events calendar.

“Past years of Living Smart Festival have shown how passionate our community is about living sustainably and thinking about how we can help make a difference,” Cr Fraser said.

“I’m looking forward to another amazing weekend that brings our community together to learn, celebrate and enjoy this landmark event.”

Applications are now open for stallholders interested in attending Living Smart Festival. All stallholders must sign an agreement to adhere to the event’s sustainability values and guidelines.
