Kat and Leroy from local band, The Gooch Palms will take to the stage tonight (Feb 20) at The Small Ballroom for their final Australian show before they head to America. We chatted with Leroy about the show and what it’s like to pack up your life and move to the other side of the world.
If you’re not familiar with The Gooch Palms, the “unstoppable force that have been turning heads and boners everywhere they go”, then tonight’s your chance to get schooled.
Over the phone, Leroy tells us that the show they’ve been touring nationally, and will bring to The Small Ballroom tonight is kind of a retrospective.
“We’re playing everything. All the Gooch favourites”
Kat and Leroy have sold the Gooch farm and will be heading to America with one way tickets not long after tonight’s gig.
“We’re basically homeless now, and living back with our parents. We had a garage sale the other day and sold everything. We’ve just got a suit case, some guitars and Kats drums left” he explains.
Selling up and heading to America sounds like a daunting prospect for most, but not for Leroy.
“No we’re not nervous at all. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do; Quit my job and become a full-time muso” he says.

Keep an eye out on Newcastle Live next week for a full write up of my interview with Leroy. He chats to us about what it was like to sign to Urinal Cake Records in Detroit, the rooms he’s most looking forward to playing once they get to America and what it’s like to work creatively with your domestic partner.
