The Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase rolls into the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre on September 4 and the Civic Theatre Newcastle on September 5 . One of Australia’s rising stars, Ray Badran will MC the a bill which features six local and international comics.
The Sydney Comedy Festival has hand-picked the funniest comedians from the 2015 festival and are hitting the road to bring an all-star comedy showcase right to your doorstep. The Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase will be heading to Port Macquarie, Taree, Cessnock and Newcastle for a huge week of laughs.
Highlights from the Showcase will include musical maestro Benny Davis, The up and coming darling of Australian comedy Becky Lucas, the refreshingly unique Mike Goldstein, the genre-defying Michael Workman, the understated truth-telling of Tien Tran and the in-demand, cross-cultural comedian Ivan Aristeguieta!
Ray Badran, winner of the self-appointed Best Bloke Award, is one of Australia’s best rising comedians.
Tien is a truth teller who isn’t scared to bring the humour out of any topic. Audiences are constantly subjected to his no holds barred style of hilarious observational commentary weaved with absurdist insight.
Becky Lucas has spent years writing and performing stand-up nationally, locally and in her bedroom. You can catch Becky on stage and on the radio. She is a regular guest on triple J and a familiar face in the Australian comedy scene.
A genre-defying fable spinner with a captivating imagination, Michael Workman creates unexpected worlds, rich characters and many, many laughs. His gentle yet powerfully poignant work stands apart from the rapid fire gags of conventional comedy.
Having toured extensively in Australia and abroad, Mike Goldstein has established himself as a unique and refreshing young talent on the international comedy circuit. Winner of the 2009 RottoFest – Best of the West Comedy Competition, Mike has also been a Raw Comedy finalist, and the Local Act Nominee at the 2011 Perth International Comedy Festival.
Benny Davis is best known as one third of musical comedy sensation The Axis of Awesome. For the past 8 years he has toured the world with The Axis of Awesome, sold out seasons at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and the prestigious invite only Montreal Comedy Festival.
Ivan Aristeguieta became a full time comedian after having a successful career as a Brew Master in his home country of Venezuela. He left the Brewery but beer is still part of his job. He quickly escalated to become part of the new Venezuelan comedy movement selling out shows around Venezuela and Miami-Florida.
