The Osman is back with another post. This week he previews the shows he’s got coming up and much more…

This Wednesday Night on Ossie And Friends, we will be having a chat on the phone with Steve Mulry, brother of the late great Ted Mulry (Ted Mulry Gang). Steve himself is an accomplished and well respected vocalist on the Aussie Music Scene. Steve is front man for Black Label and Weekend Detention, both bands regularly rock the Sydney and surrounding areas.

Steve is getting ready to embark on an emotional journey as he joins the members of The Ted Mulry Gang for a string of shows around NSW. TMG, the iconic 70’s pub rock band, are hitting the road with the “This One’s For Ted” Tour which will see original members play together for the first time in 25 years. Back in 2001, Steve sang 2 songs with the band at the Gimme Ted Benefit and got the thumbs up from his big brother. So, Steve will be the front man belting out those great memorable hits like “Jump In My Car”, “Jamacian Rum”, “Darktown Strutters Ball”, “Crazy”,  “My Little Girl” and many more. As Ted was also the bass player in the band, the services of Mark Evans (original bass player with AC/DC) have been acquired to complete the band.

The tour kicks off with a huge show at the iconic venue, The Bridge Hotel at Rozelle this Saturday Night. Tickets may well be sold out by now, however, if available, head to www.moshtix.com.au to purchase.

Do not despair, the “This One’s For Ted Tour” will be heading our way in December, with a huge show scheduled for the Belmont 16’s. We will catch up with Steve again before that one. On tonight’s program, we will also be playing some of these great hits.

Guests in the studio tonight will be members of One Day Apart who have now been confirmed as one of the bands performing at Snowtunes 2016, which is being toted as the ultimate music festival experience at the base of the Snowy Mountains.  After a successful debut in 2015, Snowtunes makes a return to the pristine setting of Lake Jindabyne. Their Facebook Event page states “Snowtunes will unshackle your imagination and push the boundaries of a modern day music event to offer snow-goers the ultimate music festival experience.” One Day Apart will join other performers such as What So Not, Hot Dub Time, Asta, Kilta, along with many others, including another Central Coast band, IVY, who were winners of the Busking Competition at Byron Bay recently gaining them a performance on the final day of the Blues Festival.

This is a huge boost for One Day Apart to be invited to such a huge event on the festival calendar. Snowtunes will be underway on Saturday 3rd September at Jindabyne, tickets are available through www.snowtunes.com.au

One Day Apart are celebrating and are also set to release their new single, Blind Killjoy which will be on their upcoming EP. Tonight on Ossie And Friends we will be playing that new single for the first time on radio. You can sneak a peek on Facebook by going to @OneDayApart where you will find a teaser of their film clip for the track. One Day Apart are also appearing at the Lake Munmorah Bowling Club this Friday Night.

Speaking of new songs, I will be playing a couple of cool covers from Johhny Kannis Explosion (The Hitmen) featuring Jimmy Barnes. Yes, what a double,,,,these were played on radio for the first time last week on Aussie Ossie Radio internet station. Johnny sent them through to me and allowed me to play them, I will give them a run tonight. If you are an Elvis fan or a Johnny Cash fan you will love these two covers.

I am also looking forward to a phone chat with arguably one of Australia’s finest songwriters and multi-talented musicians, Steve Balbi. Many know Steve as the bass player with Noiseworks, however, there is so much more to this sensational pocket dynamo.

Steve was also part of the The Electric Hippies back in the day and is now not only with Noiseworks, he is also balancing a solo career, song-writing, producing, appearing in Bowie Shows such as Ziggy –The Songs of David Bowie and a new venture, Moon-The Band. Now that seems to be busy enough. No, Steve is also front man for the electrifying 80’s band Mi-Sex who will be appearing at The Doylo with The Angels on Saturday the 23rd July. Mi-Sex also have a new single out, MySex, YourSex and an album on the way.

As you can see, Steve Balbi is one multi-talented individual. Oh, there is something else, Steve, along with his good friend Mark Alexander-Erber, have kicked off an amazing label, Golden Robot Records, which is another story in itself. Plenty to talk about with Steve tonight and we will be playing a few double shots of The Angels/Mi-Sex throughout the night on the program.
