The Osman is back with his new weekly post for Newcastle Live. In this edition, he writes about his involvment with community radio, the Central Coast band, One Day Apart and heaps more. Grab a cuppa, and read on…
I have been involved with Community Radio for over 20 years and the same with my Youth Work. I currently present a weekly program, Ossie And Friends on Community Radio Station, Lake Macquarie FM 97.3, Wednesdays from 6pm. Another of my projects is my internet radio station, Aussie Ossie Radio. On that station, I play Aussie Music 24/7. Both have Facebook Pages, @ossieandfriends and @aussieossieradio.
This Wednesday Night on Ossie And Friends, we will be joined by John and Kyal from the hard working Central Coast Band, One Day Apart. We will play some tracks from the Band’s current album, A Perfect Mess, have a chat about the band’s music and their upcoming EP.
One Day Apart are appearing at The Halekulani Bowling Club (The Hali) on Saturday Night. One Day Apart is a four piece alternative rock band with John Attard (Vocals/Guitar), Gavin Green (Lead Guitar), Kyal Bramley (Bass) and Ben Kayser (Drums) that provides a great mix of originals and covers and are quite entertaining and engaging with the audience during their high energy shows. Check them out on Facebook @OneDayApart and at The Hali on Saturday Night. You won’t be disappointed.
Other guests in the studio tonight will be The Wayward Henrys, who play what they describe as Pirate/Folk. Husband and wife, Natalie and Brock will chat about their music and play a couple of acoustic tracks for us.
Scott Bevan is visiting the studio also to have a chat with us. Scott grew up near Merewether in Newcastle and is very proud of the fact that he is a Novacastrian. Scoot has had a fantastic career in in journalism, kicking off as a cadet journalist at The Newcastle Herald, a long stint in Japan, he joined the Nine Network in 1989 then over to the ABC in 2005 which included roles as a reporter for the 7.30 Report and a presenter on ABC Local Radio. Scott has turned away from his journalism to pursue a life’s dream. That dream was to play his music and to release an EP.
With Aussie Ossie Radio, we have regular weekly programs, including Locals Only on a Monday Night which presents 3 hours of music from bands and artists from the Central Coast/Lake Macquarie/Newcastle areas. Locals’ music is also played throughout the week in various playlists on the station. Some other programs are Pedal To The Metal (Metal Show) 10pm on Thursdays, This Is Australia (60s, 70s, 80’s) 11am on Saturdays, High Noon Country on Sundays at 12noon and Blues and Roots on Sunday Night from 8.30pm
Musos are most welcome to send their music in to have it played on Aussie Ossie Radio and if you are local and would like to come to the Lake Macquarie FM 97.3 studios on a Wednesday Night to be part of that program, simply make contact via the Facebook Pages and we can book you in, We are currently booked out until mid-August, so get in as soon as possible to secure your spot.
