REVIEW: Our night at Stagwiz

Newcastle Live -

Entertainment

Last Tuesday, the Newcastle Live team headed to The Stag & Hunter Hotel for a bite to eat and to put our brains to the test with a night of ‘Stagwiz’. This is trivia like you’ve never seen it before in Newcastle, and we wanted to share with you 5 reasons why we think you’ll love it!

1 – Josh Hewitt aka “The Judge”

Josh is our host for the evening, dubbed as “The Judge” of Stagwiz. His charm, razor-sharp wit, and character make him much more than your average trivia host. He’s quick with retorts when heckled, silences an outsider who dare tried to yell out the answers in his room, and approaches his role as “The Judge” with a swagger that would make even Kanye jealous.

2 – The eerie ‘deep-south Louisiana’ vibe

When you arrive at Stagwiz, you’d be forgiven for thinking you had just accidentally stumbled onto the set of True Blood. The whole atmosphere oozes with this cool American backwater weirdness. It feels like you’ve just bought a ticket to The Freak Show and a gun fight could break out at any moment. While we can’t quite put our finger on it, the whole vibe is a combination of the room, the background music and the way Josh presents the rounds, and it is awesome.

3 – The front bar

If you haven’t been to check out what they’ve done to the front bar at The Stag & Hunter, a few rounds of Stagwiz is the perfect excuse. From the reveal of the original ceiling with hanging saloon lights, to the old carnival clown machine in the corner, this bar offers a completely different look and feel to any other in Newcastle.

4 – The slightly odd and very interesting themes to each of the trivia rounds

Each round of Stagwiz has a particular theme and is presented with graphics on the big screen. It goes from oddball facts, to music, to pop culture, and everything in between!

5 – The prizes

We won the first round of Stagwiz which scored us a voucher for a free beer, wine or soft drink for each member of our team. Overall, we came a close second to the team from Mayfield’s The Locomotive, and scored ourselves a $40 voucher for lunch or dinner. You can also put your name in the weekly draw to win a $200 cash prize – the only catch is, you must be present to collect your prize!
