REVIEW: A roaring good time at Walking With Dinosaurs

Newcastle Live -

Music

We had the pleasure of attending the opening night of Walking With Dinosaurs at Newcastle Entertainment Centre last night. The show has returned to our home town after touring the world with a production that has to be seen to be believed. Here’s 4 reasons we loved the show.

1 – Kids

We took a look around the room during the show last night, and the reactions on the kids faces were priceless. From the Stegosaurus to the towering 36 ft tall Brachiosaurus, as each successive dinosaur took to the stage the kids in the room moved further to the edge of their seats.

2 – The Utahraptors

For us these were the coolest dinosaurs of the night. While the massive dinos were really cool, it was these “suit dinosaurs” that really hit the mark for us. With their punk rock looking feathers and deathly stares, the puppeteers really brought these puppets to life. Has to be seen to be believed.

3 – Huxley

As the only human in the show, he narrates the journey just perfectly, all the while making palaeontology accessible. He’s just the right mix between David Attenborough and Steve Irwin providing inspiration and knowledge for the younger audience with enough asides to keep the adults giggling.

4 – The T-Rex scene

Is there anything cuter than a mother and son T-Rex? We think not. Don’t get us wrong, the mummy T-Rex is also pretty scary and while we don’t want to give too much away,  we do have to say that the interaction between Mum and son is one of the highlights of the show.
