Deputy Lord Mayor Cr Stephanie Posniak has put out the call for Novocastrians to nominate for this year’s Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year. We’re encouraging the Newcastle Live community to nominate locals who dedicate themselves to local music, theatre or arts in our region.
We’ve decided to make this request because the people who work behind the scenes of our industry often go unnoticed.
These people organise gigs, promote artists, make space for new artists to find an audience and they often do it with no or little financial reward. In short, these people are awesome and deserve our city’s recognition.
We’re not going to list the people we think are worthy, because that list would go on forever. But if you think about the people who’ve given your band a leg up, turned you onto a great local artist or promoted a gig you’ve loved, these are the people we’re talking about.
In announcing that nominations were open, Cr Stephanie Posniak said, “These awards are a great opportunity to honour those who have made a considerable impact in the community,”.
“If you know someone who deserves recognition for their valuable community contributions, please nominate them today for The City of Newcastle Australia Day Awards.”
What could be more valuable to our community than promoting our rich live music and arts scene?
Nominations close 5pm Wednesday 19 November 2014. Nomination forms and instructions can be downloaded from Council’s website at www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au. Click on About Newcastle, Events and Australia Day Awards.
