Newcastle Live’s top picks for GTM 15

Music

Everybody’s favourite bovine bash, Groovin’ The Moo, just started it’s run across rural Australia over the weekend. To help get your ears and eyes warmed up for the festival’s arrival to Maitland Showground on Saturday 9 May, we’ve put together our Top 5 Picks for this year’s line-up…

1. DMA’s

They may look like just a couple of lads fresh outta Manchester, but this Sydney trio’s performance packs one hell of a punch. We were lucky enough to catch them at BIGSOUND last year and they absolutely killed it. Drop everything and see these guys!

2. Peaches

Get schooled in the Teaches of Peaches. This gender-bending electro-rocker is infamous for her wild and sexed-up stage antics, so if you want an eye-opening-jaw-dropping performance, make sure you pay Peaches a visit…

2. The Preatures

Everyone fell in love with The Preatures upon the release of their 2013 EP Is This How You Feel? Now, the Sydney rockers are finally back on Australian shores after making waves across Europe and the US touring their debut 2014 album, Blue Planet Eyes. Be sure to catch them at GTM before they flitter off overseas again.

4. Saskwatch

This 9-piece soul powerhouse are one of the most exciting live bands out there right now, complete with a horn section AND an amazing pocket-rocket of a front-woman, Nkechi Anele.

5. Tkay Maidza

19 year-old Tkay Maidza is Australian rap’s latest wunderkind, compared to the likes of M.I.A. and Azealia Banks. Last year saw her come into the hip-hop/rap consciousness with tracks like “U-Huh” and “Switch Lanes”, and she continues to make her make with her latest release, “M.O.B.”. Bring your best twerking game to this set.
