What is it: Simon is just an average teenager. He has lots of friends and a tight circle of close friends. He has a happy home and loving parents. In fact, there is nothing unusual, special or unique about Simon at all. Well there is one thing.
Simon is gay and has yet to tell anyone.
One day, he answers an anonymous post on his school’s online blog and pretty soon he is communicating with another gay boy at his school and finds himself falling in love with the anonymous Blue.
So who is it? Who is Simon’s secret online love?
Why should I watch it : Love, Simon is just a lovely movie. It is hilarious in parts, it is sad in parts. It will make you laugh, cry, cringe and even roll your eyes…..sometime in the one scene! These kids are just average teenagers …….if just a wee bit too wholesome … trying to navigate their way through their last year or so of school.
Watching Simon fall in love and then try to navigate some suddenly very tricky terrain, is a reminder of how tough that first love can be. Our young hero has some unusual issues to contend with to be sure but as you get caught up in the whole ‘who is Blue?’ thing, you will find yourself falling just a little bit in love with this movie yourself.
For those of us old enough to recall, think John Hughes kinda warm and fuzzy funniness.
If it's on in Newcastle, it's on Newcastle Live
