MOVIE REVIEW: Black Panther

Entertainment Movies

A few years ago, Marvel had become a pretty boring franchise and then, just like that, it’s alive…………… kicking and screaming and bringing the goods!

Who is in it: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Sterling K Brown, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis

What is it: To put it simply, it is the Black Panther origin story that, naturally, sits seamlessly in the Marvel universe but can be watched as a pretty damn awesome movie on its own.

Set immediately after Captain America: Civil War, T’Çhalla/Black Panther returns to his homeland, the hidden African nation of Wakanda, to take his place as their King. But as these things go, not all is peaceful and his position as King is challenged. T’Challa must fight to protect not only his own kingdom but the entire world.

Why should I watch it: Because it’s brilliant! The story, the actors, the fantastically wonderful nation of Wakanda that, on one hand, is seriously technologically advanced yet on the other, remains true to its African roots.

And just like in Wonder Woman, women are front and centre. Strong, powerful and capable in their own right. Love!

This movie proves, yet again, that so-called minority groups can actually hold their own, carry an entire movie and, dare I even suggest, be better at it than….. well you get the picture.
