Micro Theatre 2016 Festival Launch

A group of like-minded creatives got together last year to present a week long festival of short plays with a difference. The festival’s success exceeded their expectations, so they’re doing it all again, and this Thursday at the The Press Book House on Hunter Street, they will announce the first “official” season of Newcastle’s very own, fun and quirky, Micro Theatre Festival.

Micro Theatre is a festival of locally grown plays performed in intimate spaces such as café’s, small art galleries, and boutique wine bars. The venue is the stage. Check out the video below to get an idea…

The audience is aware that the play/s will be performed while they are at the venue. Each play begins spontaneously with an actor addressing the audience who may at that moment be otherwise engaged: looking at artwork, talking with friends, eating or drinking. A single person narrative draws in the audience and from this tight beginning the story unfolds. Other actors might enter the venue, may already be sitting at a table, or perhaps they’ve just served you your wine…

Micro Theatre has two key goals: to support Newcastle’s small business and to bring theatre to new audiences, in new venues.

The launch will be held this Thursday, April 28 at the The Press Book House at 11am.
