Mark Wells Big Band Benefit Concert for HMRI

Brittany Herron -

One of Newcastle’s favourite musicians, Mark Wells, will host and perform at the Big Band Benefit Concert to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis Research on Friday May 29th at the Factory Theatre (St Pius X High School), Park Avenue, Adamstown.

About The Event

In 2013, Mark Wells and his 7 Piece Big Band played a sell out show to over 400 people, and raised over $20,000 for Cystic Fibrosis Research.

This year, the Big Band Benefit Concert is back, and will showcase some of his new material, plenty of tracks from his previous releases and a selection of surprising cover tunes.

The band features the cream of the crop of the Newcastle Music Scene, together for a rare special performance not to be missed.

The evening will also have a number of live and silent auctions, big ticket raffles, and a VIP Event that includes a stand up dinner and beverage package.

The Mark Wells’ 7 Piece Big Band include: Mark Wells, Bob Corbett (Toyota Starmaker and and Multi award winner), Dave Carter, Jason Bone, Justin Ngariki, Brian Daly and Matt Gaudry

Why HMRI and CF?

Mark has lived with Cystic Fibrosis from the time he was born and has personally benefitted from a number of HMRI trials that has changed his life.

“Being part of the trails at HMRI  reminded me of how research can have a dramatic and personal impact on people’s daily lives,” Mark explains.

In 2013 Mark organised the first benefit concert to raise funds for further CF studies in the Hunter. The event was a sell out success, raising over $20,000 to support a project by CF Clinic Director and Respiratory Researcher Professor Peter Wark.

Prof Wark’s study is aiming to find inflammatory biomarkers that can help predict the onset of lung infections, allowing clinicians to start treatment prior to a flare up and save vital lung tissue from further damage.

Mark has big plans for the 2015 benefit concert and will be taking the opportunity to showcase some brand new material from his upcoming EP for the very first time.
