LIVE AT THE FORESHORE, a brand new festival featuring a line-up of Aussie rock legends, is set to hit Newcastle’s Camp Shortland on Sunday 1 November.
James Reyne | Baby Animals | Mark Seymour and the Undertow | Shannon Noll | Choirboys | Moving Pictures | Monsters of Rock ft. members of Rose Tattoo and the Screaming Jets
In the 1980’s, Newcastle was woven together with a solid live rock music scene and sun drenched weekends at the beach. In recent years, the culinary revolution added to that fabric. Our streets and alley way filled with hole in the wall speakeasies and small niche restaurants where everything is about quality and their own sense of style. No wonder we were voted one of Lonely Planets ‘Top 10 cities in the world’. Finally all those elements will converge in one place when LIVE AT THE FORESHORE bring your best music memories to Camp Shortland on November 1.
Seven iconic acts will make up an Aussie rock invasion, storming one of Newcastle most popular beaches. The line up includes James Reyne, Baby Animals, Mark Seymour and The Undertow, Shannon Noll, Moving Pictures, Choirboys and Monsters of Rock (featuring members of Screaming Jets and Rose Tattoo).
James Reyne fronted Australian Crawl and has had a stellar solo career. We first saw him on Countdown in 1979 and since then his songs have provided the soundtrack to endless Australian summers, including “The Boys Light Up”, “Reckless”, “Beautiful People”, “Lakeside”, “Daughters Of The Northern Coast”, “Fall Of Rome”, “Hammerhead”, “Motor’s Too Fast” and “Slave”.
Baby Animals led by rock goddess Suze DeMarchi. The band has been warmly embraced since reuniting and releasing This Is Not The End, their first album of new music since 1993. Recent singles “News Email” and “Stitch”, along side the classics “Early Warning”, “One Word” and “Rush You” make the perfect set list to show off the talent of, not only the band, but of one of Australia’s most enigmatic front women.
As the front man for one of Australia’s most seminal bands, the mighty Hunters & Collectors, Mark Seymour is one of Australia’s most gifted and respected musicians. He delivered rock classics that immediately etched their way into our national consciousness, including “Holy Grail”, “Throw Your Arms Around Me”, “When The River Runs Dry”, “Do You See What I See”, “Say Goodbye”, and many more. Joined by his tight as a fist band, The Undertow, Mark will take all his hits to a whole new level.
Since the day Shannon Noll stepped into the spotlight, his undeniable talent took him to the top of the charts, with a stack of top 10 singles under his belt he still possesses that country boy charm and honestly that see him connect with legions of fans. His fourth album, A Million Suns stays true to his rock roots, including a co-write with Good Charlotte’s front man, Benji Madden. Having grown up in the bush, Shannon can rock a live show with the best of them.
Choirboys personify the 80’s with their long enduring hits “Run to Paradise” and “Boys Will Be Boys” and “Struggle Town”. Entertaining young and old for 30 years now, Choirboys are entrenched in the rock landscape. When you ask front man Mark Gable why they keep going, he answers enthusiastically, “Because we bloody love it!”.
Moving Pictures song “What About Me” put them on the map, and their song “Never” being part of the iconic 80’s film Footloose starring Kevin Bacon, made them legendary world wide.
Monsters of Rock are our very own super group featuring members of Rose Tattoo and The Screaming Jets. Playing all the hits from their collective decades of touring.
While the atmosphere around the conveniently located inner city venue will come to life with all the hits you know and love, your other senses will be well catered for. Small batch brew craft beer, wine, cider, fresh poured mixed spirits and cocktails will be offer, as well as mouth-watering food provided by some of the countries finest food trucks and local restaurants and bars. The relaxing beach side location will also make way for market stalls and a mix of all the weird and wonderful things this city has to offer.
To take optimum advantage of the coastal summer sun, gates will open at 12.30pm with the last act finishing up at 8pm. What a perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
This sensational collection of artists has over 50 Top 40 hits between them, we are sure you’ll know all the words (and some of the dance moves!). LIVE AT THE FORESHORE is the perfect opportunity to grab a cold beer, some great food, a spot on the grass to soak up the quintessential Newcastle summer and still be able to get home with no hassle. Just a word of warning, some things have changed over the years. Bring some sunscreen instead of covering yourself in coconut oil and hoping for the best (gotta watch that pesky hole in the ozone layer!).
