Headlined by Newcastle Golden Guitar winner Catherine Britt, The 8th Lost Highway Bluegrass Music Festival will held under the Big Top at Aliceton Reserve, Karuah on May 6 – 8.
Lost Highway has built up a reputation as an ideal place for bluegrass players and enthusiasts to gather. The 2016 festival will be a bumper event with the cream of Australian bluegrass, original acoustic and country swing.
Besides the talented and remarkable Catherine Britt, the festival will also play host to Melbourne bluegrass legends Bluestone Junction, local legend Bill Chambers, and Canberra troubadour Den Hanrahan.
Other acts include Canberra’s musical vaudevillesque Doctor Stovepipe, Sydney bluegrass stalwarts The Three Marketeers, dance caller and Champion Busker Mike Martin with Lindsay Martin, old timey duo Cat and Clint and hilarious bluegrass cabaret act Coolgrass.
The mission of the Lost Highway festival is to create a festival where musicians, residents and music lovers can gather to enjoy acoustic music, share ideas, learn new music skills and enjoy a weekend of performances in a beautiful setting. Karuah is famous for its majestic river, fresh local oysters, top class accommodation, and a welcoming regional atmosphere. There are a number of motels to choose from, cabins and camping at the caravan park, and loads more options just down the road at Raymond Terrace.
The circus troop will also conduct circus workshops for the young folk and host a performance from local school children. Saturday will see an exotic array of market stalls, while Sunday will be a special Mother’s Day event with the usual Bluegrass Gospel concert and festival showcase of artists. The Karuah Community Hall is transformed into the intimate single microphone venue Picker’s Paradise, allowing audiences to hear bluegrass music in traditional style. The Dolphin Stage bamboo yurt also returns as the workshop and open mic venue, then a late night picking space.
