Local four-piece Introvert have released a new single and video from their soon-to-be-released EP. ‘Is It Too Late’ is the first taste from a quickly maturing band that is blending elements from a myriad of heavy genres. Newcastle Live had a quick Q&A with guitarist Mitch Raschke ahead of their massive show supporting Basement at The Cambridge Hotel.
Can you tell us a little about your new single? Where did the inspiration for it come from?
Well across us four, there’s a very long list of inspiration in terms of bands, but it would mainly come down to Balance & Composure, Harbours (Melbourne based band, definitely check them out), and Basement just to name a few. We’re trying to take a more developed and mature approach to songwriting, as opposed to our earlier tracks ‘Trip’ and ‘It’s Alright’.
It got played on triple j’s Short.Fast.Loud last night, that must be a pretty crazy experience!
Yeah, that was really cool. We were astounded when we found out, to be featured alongside some great bands is a humbling experience indeed.
Where was the song recorded? How was the recording process?
We recorded the track with Mitta Norath at Tommirock Studios. It was an incredible experience for all of us, Mitta is a very talented engineer, and would easily be the best person any of us have recorded with, both with Introvert and older projects. There were stressful moments, as expected but overall it was a very cool experience.
How about making the music video? Was the the first time you had ever had to do one?
Sure was, a few of us were a little bit nervous, but after an initial test take we felt as comfortable as usual. Jack Rudder shot the video for us, and did an incredible job. Considering he’s only just starting out, it’s a great result that we’re very thankful for. Alongside recording, it was a great experience.
‘Is It Too Late’ is the first single from your new EP, when will that be released?
We don’t have a definite release date locked in at the present time, but most likely over the next few weeks. Best to keep an eye out on our Facebook, Twitter etc for news and other exciting things like that.
What should we expect from the new songs?
A new twist for Introvert. We’ve really approached this release quite differently, and we’re hoping there’s something that will appeal to everyone, a splash of heavy mixed with our alternative base sound I guess. Fresh and more established, so keep an eye out for them.
Where can fans catch you around Newcastle soon?
We’re supporting Basement (UK) and Turnover (US) alongside Endless Heights at The Cambridge Hotel tonight! Lots are tickets are available to that, head over to our Facebook page for information. We also have a few local shows across June and July coming up, which will be announced over the coming weeks.
