The Newcastle heat of the Global Battle of the Bands is happening at The Stag & Hunter Hotel this Sunday the 24th of May. So this week we’ve decided to profile some of the acts that will be battling it out to move onto the state finals. Today we’re focusing on local Hip Hop artist, Onemiketheartist.

Onemiketheartist started out as a graffiti artist in late 96, and turning his talent to other elements such as Dj’ing (Turntablism) and rapping (Mc’ing).

Onemike’s musical style has evolved over the past 15 years to bring to you his very refreshing and unique flow and delivery based on a blend of blues, funk, soul, jazz, rock and of course that classic golden era hip hop sound that he grew up with.

September 2014 witnessed a 10 track debut album titled “Makin Moves” which was a dedication to the funky throwback golden era Hip Hop sound that was his main influence, with the album being recorded at home, the process was a lengthy one as all vocals were double tracked edited and mixed by onemiketheartist himself before using Landr a online algorithm based mastering service before releasing the album on limited edition Vinyl a limited cd run of 50 and digitally for pay what you want on band camp, a short promo clip and artwork was also  produced entirely by himself in true DYI fashion

The Album received some community radio play, some attention on worldwide hip hop blogs and reasonable attention on sound cloud & band camp from Hip Hop heads around the globe

2015 has seen a step up in the live performances with drummer (Tomas Fairlie) being added to the line up and a bunch of unreleased material pleasing new listeners from all walks of life.

Onemiketheartist has a 6 track EP to be released in the next 3 months as well as a funky follow up to his debut album scheduled for the start of summer later this year, before focusing on releasing 3 albums in 2016.

Onemiketheartist has presented on community radio for 100.9 port Stephens FM running his own hip hop hour, freelanced for Reverb online magazine, studied music business at tafe, promoted local music events since 2008 through to the present, and has had the pleasure to support some of the biggest Hip Hop acts in Australia such as The Herd, Thundamentals, Dialectrix plus many more.

You can check out what Onemiketheartist does when he hits the stage at the Stag & Hunter on Sunday. We’ll be on the judging panel, so we’ll see you there.
