Opera Hunter will officially open its production of Don Giovanni tomorrow evening at the Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre.

Performed in English in an Australian-premiere translation by Tony award-winner Jeremy Sams, the production will run for eight performances from June 14 to 25.

Don Giovanni is an opera in two acts with music by W. A. Mozart. The story line is based on the legends of Don Juan, an arrogant and sexually promiscuous nobleman, who abuses and outrages everyone else in the cast until he encounters something he cannot kill, beat up, dodge, or outwit.

The production is at times intense with moments of humour, heartbreak, fear and love thanks to a brilliant cast, including Alex Sefton and Sepehr Irandoost sharing the role of Don Giovanni, Tristan Entwistle as Leporello, Livia Brash as Donna Elvira, Georgia Hall and Pamela Andrews as Donna Anna, Samanta Lestavel and Ashlee Woodgate as Zerlina, Vincent Farrell as Masetto, Joshua Oxley as Don Ottavio and Michael Saunders as the Commendatore.

Don Giovanni remains one of the most frequently performed works in the operatic repertoire. For Mozart, Don Giovanni was a gift to the people and city of Prague who the previous year had applauded The Marriage of Figaro to an everlasting triumph across Europe.

The opera was written as a combination of “serious” and “comic”, ensuring moments of high drama and broad comedy.

“We would be thrilled if you could attend and help us celebrate this internationally recognised Opera coming to the people of the Hunter. We can promise you won’t be disappointed” says Don Giovanni producer, Mercia Buck.

Tickets for Don Giovanni can be purchased through the Opera Hunter website, operahunter.org.au, via Sticky Tickets or by phone on 4943 1672.
