The menus maybe presented in old books, but don’t let that fool you. The Civic Digest Cafe boasts cutting edge library technology that gives dinners and coffee drinkers the ability to immerse themselves in the latest international magazines, arts and culture journals, music databases and heaps more.
One of the first things you notice when entering the cafe are the two huge tables with massive touch screens embedded into them.
These screens not only serve as a direct line to Newcastle Library’s digital resources, they provide a place where people can embrace creative and cultural content.
Offering access to library services in a setting that is conducive to social and cultural pursuits and experiences, seems like a “no brainer”, but the Civic Digest is one of the first collaborations like this in the word.
Being the big kids that we are, we headed straight for the app section of the giant screen, and loaded up a game of virtual air hockey! Not a bad way to spend 20 minutes while we enjoyed our delicious hot chocolates.
But seriously, we can see many ways that these screens could be useful for locals and tourists planning their day or wanting to find out what on. #protip – The Newcastle Live web site looks awesome on the massive screens.
If you prefer to using your own screen, the cafe also offers free access to high quality Wi-Fi.
