Hat’s off to the organisers of The Mai-Wel Group’s 13th Annual Celebrity Comedy Debate, held on Saturday 12th August, who raised $25k which will be allocated to Mai-Wel’s newest training space, ‘The Lab’.
More than 300 guests filled Maitland Town Hall to watch two teams debate the topic, ‘Fame trumps Brains – is popularity more important than intelligence’?
After gripping arguments were presented by both teams led by well-known comedians Peter Rowsthorn and Andy Saunders, the audience decided that fame DOES trump brains.
There was also an appearance of two Kim Kardashians’, President Donald Trump (played by Debate veteran and local solicitor Matt Tranter) and an exciting auction raising more than $10,000 alone.
“The funds raised will fit-out Mai-Wel’s newest training space, assisting jobseekers with a disability or those who experience disadvantage to develop the necessary skills to get a job”, said Pennie.
“The 13th Annual Celebrity Comedy Debate was another fabulous and quality night of entertainment and fun. The generosity of our event sponsors and partners, in addition to the support of the community is overwhelming. A huge thank you to all involved”.
The Mai-Wel Celebrity Comedy Debate is one of three major fundraising events held annually by The Mai-Wel Group.
