In the mid 1970s, Dennis Bourke was the lead guitarist of the legendary Newcastle band Benny and the Jets. When the massive floods came through a few weeks ago Dennis lost almost everything, including a classical Spanish guitar, a 1976 Gibson SG, amplifier and, most importantly, his entire collection of sheet music from the 1950s through to the present day.
These days Dennis teaches guitar to children in Dungog and Clarence Town, as well as managing the Clarence Town choir and playing at church services. Dennis was staying with a friend in Dungog when the massive floods came through and lost including sheet music for every AC/DC, Beatles and Rolling Stones song ever released.
The local music community are appealing to anyone out there that can spare some sheet music from this era, to help Dennis to teach his students how to read music properly.
Dennis’ good mate, Gerry Swan is coordinating the appeal. You can send your sheet music to Gerry, at Chillbillies Cafe, Dungogat 205 Dowling Street, Dungog, NSW 2420 and he will pass it on to Dennis together with any message you may attach.
We’re hoping you can share this post with as many musicians as you can and hopefully by the time thePlanet Dungog Music Festival takes place on 29-31 May 2015, we might have some good news for Dennis.
