“Hey Baby, we’re Gomez Atoms”. That’s the description of the latest project for locals Johnny Utah, Prem Bedlam & DJ Mathmatics. The crew will open for American rapper Watsky at the Small Ballroom this Thursday (Dec 11).
As you’ll see below, these guys have laid a solid foundation for their collaboration as Gomez Atoms.
Johnny Utah has been actively playing live shows and touring for close to three years. He’s supported acts such as Urthboy, The Funkoars, Spit Syndicate, Skyptcha, Seth Sentry etc as well as multiple national tours with Chance Waters and Mind Over Matter, and playing 2010’s Groovin’ The Moo Festival.
Prem Bedlam maybe Newcastle’s best kept secret. In late 2010 he released a 7 track EP titled “The Fundrazor” and with the help of local turntable master DJ N’taprize, the pair quickly became known for their house rocking live show.rem has supported some of the biggest Australian and international hip hop artists including; Techn9ne (USA), Drapht, Muph N Plutonic, Funkoars, Horrorshow, Urthboy, Illy, Thundamentals, Spit Syndicate, 360 & Pez, Motley (UK), Phrase and many more.
Having been involved in the various elements of hip hop since it arrived in Australia in the early ’80s, Deejay Mathmatics made his first major moves in 1993 when he co-founded the RoboTek crew with hip hop artists Swipa, Mandrin and Phero. In the early 2000s, Mathmatics decided he needed a change of direction, to focus more directly on his djing and turntablism. It was at this time that he began touring intensively and taking on more club nights, festivals, bboy events and battles around Australia.
We recommend getting to the show early to catch these guys. You can find out more about the event and how to purchase tickets by visiting The Small Ballroom’s website.
