All our courses are SUBSIDISED by the NSW Government through Smart and Skilled. The student’s contribution will vary depending on individual circumstances, however the maximum that a student will pay is one-third of the course costs.

CERTIFICATE 3 MUSIC INDUSTRY 

All Certificate 3 students attend 2 days per week for 6 months. As a result, students have lots of time to work part time in the music and entertainment industry, go and check out some local gigs or work on their own music. 

When you enrol in the Certificate 3 Music Industry, you must select your preferred area of specialisation. There are three:

PERFORMANCE

If you want to enter the exciting world of music making and performance, this is the specialisation for you. Improve your stage techniques and performance ability with our specialist performance teachers and apply those skills at our very own fortnightly Music event on campus, known as Live @the Lunchbox.  At this event, you will have the opportunity to perform, try out new material and work with other students. As part of the course, you will be able to audition for our talent pool of musicians, which is often sourced for special performances at internal and external gigs and local events.

If you want to further develop your music-making and performance techniques, the following pathway is available: Certificate 4 Music Industry (Performance)

SOUND PRODUCTION

If you’re looking at entering the challenging world of sound production, this is the specialisation for you. Get an introduction to studio recording in our world-class studios and be trained in Pro Tools, the industry standard in digital recording software. These skills are a great foundation for your engineering career. You get to run your own fortnightly Music event on campus, Live @the Lunchbox, where you can practice setting up PAs, mixing and running a gig. This is a great way to take skills learnt in class straight into a unique music experience.

MUSIC BUSINESS

If you’re interested in the exciting world of music business where you’re managing and promoting artists and their music and services, this is the specialisation for you. Learn creative business skills from our industry specialists (agents and event managers) and apply these skills to your own fortnightly Music event. As part of your class work you will select talent, write bios, worksheets, liaise with production crew and network with students on campus.

CERTIFICATE 3 LIVE PRODUCTION and SERVICES
BACKSTAGE – Technical Assistants and Stage Crew


If you would love to work in the backstage area of live theatre, events and conferences, this is the course area for you. This course is an entry-level requirement for backstage work. You will get skills in audio, lighting, staging and AV set-ups – these are the skills needed if you want to get work as crew on local events, such as ‘Day on the Green’ and venues, such as the Civic Theatre.  You’ll also get an introduction to ushering, crowd control and customer service. The chance of employment in the Entertainment industry is greater if you have completed this training.

CERTIFICATE 3 SCREEN and MEDIA (RADIO)  
BACKSTAGE – Technical Assistants and Managers


If you can see yourself working in radio, as a presenter or producer, or want to get into online podcasting, this is the course for you.  In this course, you will get an introduction to Pro Tools – the industry standard in digital recording software – to microphones, audio set-ups, recording and editing.

You’ll also organise and undertake interviews, write stories and compile content for a radio program and create your favourite playlist to complement your program. This course is an important foundation for working in radio or in creating of podcasts.

If you want to develop your technical skills in specialised sound production areas the following pathways are available: Certificate 4 Music Industry and Certificate 4 Screen and Media

CERTIFICATE 3 ARTS ADMINISTRATION
CREATIVE ARTS BUSINESS:  Managers and Facilitators

If you would love to get into the business side of the arts, such working in galleries, for arts markets, distributing artists’ products, this is the course for you.  This training gives you the skills to understand both the business and creative sides of arts management for visual and performing artists. This is a rich and rewarding area of employment.  You will gain skills in the following: how to work with artists, how to deal with venue operators, how to assist in the writing of grants, how to prepare and present exhibitions, product launches and public productions. 

This course is an entry-level requirement for administrative work in the arts.
