Starting today, libraries throughout the Hunter Region will host regional workshops, heats and finals of the 2015 Australian Poetry Slam.
Hosting the Slam in the Hunter is Zohab Zee Khan, the current Australian Poetry Slam champion, a didgeridoo player, harmonica beat-boxer and hip-hop artist. Zohab, who has toured Australia, Asia, the Middle East and Europe to sell-out crowds, will also host the workshops, giving opportunities for people to learn about his performing techniques.
Anyone can participate: all you need is your voice. Writers and performers are given a microphone, a live audience and just two minutes to impress the judges with their original spoken word, poetry, hip hop, monologues and stories.
If you want to be in the cheering, raucous, finger-snapping, poetry loving audience, come along to an upcoming slam. You may even get to judge, as judges are chosen from the live audience.
The live literary performances will be held at Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Newcastle Region Libraries. See below for more details.
