Stone Empire originated in 2011 when lead Vocalist and Guitarist Justin Dorin found himself in a small town on the Mid East Coast of Australia just outside of Newcastle.
With a head full of music and a heart full of pain Justin Dorin began turning that pain into Lyrics, matched with Killer Guitar Riffs and Drum beats in his Head and his unstoppable internal drive to turn his music into something more.
Pulling together a Band who could all see the raw passion, Stone Empire was formed. One hard working band with a truck load of drive and Tenacity.
From their first Live Album in 2014 titled “ENCLOSURE” three songs where submitted to Triple J Unearthed radio station, within the first week Triple J rated Stone Empire as a 5 Star band and all three tracks secured a place in Triple js Unearthed top 100.
Lead Vocalist and Guitarist Justin Dorin said;
“I wanted to write and record an Album which had been a lifelong dream, I just had all this music in my head and I always believed you can make your dreams come true”
Bass guitar wasn’t the first choice for Liam Lewis (now bass player in the band). Liam’s first professional band was formed by some older mates when he was at high school, having enough guitarists in this band Liam decided the, funk/fusion/groove/jazz band ‘EXPRESSION’ needed SAX! So he hired a tenor sax from the music department. His dad remembers quite well when Liam came home with the sax, “our house was on a hill top with a road running right around the hill (loop, from back door to front door about ½ a K) he walked around and around and around the hill, got louder and louder then faded then louder and louder, there he goes again……again…..again….. around the F…king hill, till he got it”
Drummer Pete Boyd has been playing drums since the mid 90’s. In 2004 he joined a cover band called Fat Albert. They played the East Coast of Australia and were flown to a few remote mining towns up the top end and Western Australia. They played with Screaming Jets, Mental as Anything, Choirboys, and Tug.
