Alturas bring soaring jazz and smooth tango to Newcastle

After the much anticipated release of their 2nd album, ‘Sin Palabras’, Alturas will head to Newcastle to perform their dark moody tangos and soaring jazz solos at The Unorthodox Church Of Groove on Friday 8th May.

One of Newcastle’s more unique venues, The Unorthodox Church of Groove, will be transformed into a world of jazz tango fusion, with a very special tango dance performance by Mauricio Hernandez.

Inspired by the music of Argentina, Alturas combine influences from classical, latin and tango to create a unique blend of haunting melodies with jazz-inspired solos. Including some gorgeous pieces from Venezuela and Brazil with subtle embedded suggestions of tango.

Alturas have been performing as a group since 2009. The group started as a duo with Gaye Thomas (flute) and Jane Andino (piano). It has over the years grown to become a sextet, performing throughout Eastern Australia. Twice the group have performed for the National Argentine Day celebrations in Canberra, at the request of the Argentinean Embassy.
